Today’s Picture Book Postcard is from Digital Red.
Once upon a time, Little Red loved her red cloak. Now? She’s all about her little red phone. When Fairy Godmother tries to tell the classic story, Digital Red can’t stop posting and sharing with her new online “friends”. A modern fractured fairy tale, Digital Red showcases why it’s important to be careful about who you talk to online—and what you share.

Like many of my ideas, this project emerged from a blend of inspiration drawn from the children I work with, a restless night, and insights gained at a writers’ conference. I began reflecting on how the challenges young people face today differ from those of previous generations. Most of the children I support—even the youngest—are not encountering strangers in physical spaces, but online. This reality underscored the need to create engaging, relevant materials that meet them where they are and after a session on fractured fairy tales I saw the perfect opportunity to take something familiar and update it to todays world.
